Originally invented in 1931 for the British officers based in India, the Reverso watch was meant to survive polo matches. The ingenious solution was a reversible case which could be discreetly flipped to protect the watch’s dial. With around 90 different components in its signature rectangular case and more than 100 components in the watch’s movement, it makes it impossible to replicate. While the Reverso’s conception is definitely complex, to celebrate its birthday, the iconic model has gone simpler actually: three distinct versions that afford a wealth of surprise! The Reverso Classic, the Reverso One, and the Reverso Tribute, are now available in small, medium and large sizes. With simple designs and styles, the Reverso is now all automatic. Manual winding is no longer necessary. Stainless steel is now standardised even if 18-carat gold is still available on the ‘duo face’.

I was captivated by the Jaeger-LeCoultre and Louboutin collaboration but I have picked my favourite: the Reverso One Cordonnet! Inspired by the model from 1936, the watch displays the rounded Arabic numerals and dauphine hands of the period. Small, delicately traced angles emphasise the watch refined features and its appearance passes effortlessly from era to era without showing its age. A delicate leather strap, a discreet buckle, a combination of pink gold and steel touch adjusted on the acquirer’s wrist…Delightful.
